Welcome to the Gullah Historic Settlement Community (HSC) Property website. This site is designed to help the community, culture, and traditions of the Gullah people endure for the next generation. We aid in this effort by creating a mechanism by which younger generations can rent or purchase property in their communities. We also help our new neighbors appreciate the deep history and legacy they are joining by living in these areas.
Our Story
This site was started by the Ten Mile Historic Preservation Committee as they saw there was no existing mechanism for younger generations to return to their communities. Often, homes and land in settlement communities are located on heirs property or bound by tightly knit family relationships.
Therefore, homes may sit vacant or land unused if no younger generation of a family is ready to use this resource. Our hope is that by creating this website another community member has the opportunity to return to a settlement community by renting or purchasing a vacant home or property.
